Court Declares President’s Appointment Of Service Chiefs Illegal

high_court_14A Federal High Court judge, Justice Adamu Bello, yesterday, in Abuja declared the appointment of all Service Chiefs in the country unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.

Consequently, the judge restrained the President from further appointing service chiefs without the approval of the Senate.

Delivering judgement in a suit filed by Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Mr Festus Keyamo against President Goodluck Jonathan, the Attorney-General of the Federation and all the Service Chiefs, Justice Bello agreed with Keyamo that contrary to the current practice where the president appoints Service Chiefs for the Federation without first obtaining the confirmation of the National Assembly is not right and a violation of the law.
