Queries over N3bn expenditure: Reps insist on NSC DG’s physical appearance
The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts on Wednesday summoned the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye over the several auditor queries raised against the Commission by the Auditor General of the Federation (AGF), totalling over N3.085 billion in the 2010 financial year.
Elegbeleye, who incidentally was a member of the House of Representatives, was billed to appear before the committee on Wednesday to defend the queries after several invitations, but sent a team led by Mallam Mustapha Mohammed, a director in the commission which the committee turned back and insisted on the physical appearance of the director general.
The committee chairman, Honourable Solomon Olamilekan Adeola ruled that the director was not competent to defend the queries, adding that, that was how the officials of the commission shielded the immediate director general of the commission, Chief Patrick Ekeji from honouring the several invitations extended to him before his tenure expired, saying that the committee would not allow such to repeat itself.[Nigerian Tribune]
