Ahmed: Why LGAs Autonomy is Not Feasible

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, Thursday said autonomy for local government areas would continue to elude Nigeria, until the 774 local government areas in the country were able to harness their own resources for the development of the people at the grassroots.

Ahmed, who disclosed this Thursday in Ilorin, during his monthly personality programme tagged: “Governor Explains”, said: “It is disheartening that, some of the councils have poor revenue base and some of them were also created on political base that have no solid foundation for development.”

Ahmed said these factors have affected them from meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

The governor added that most of the revenue allocations accruing to the 774 councils in the country came through the federal government allocations, thereby inhibiting their autonomy.[THISDAY live]
